School’s In: Students, Social Participation, Charities and Law

This inquiry based activity focuses on charities and non-profit organizations. The content specifically addresses outcome S6 in Social Studies 10, 20 and 30. Based on a fundamental assumption that students should be involved in decision-making, this resource enables teachers to facilitate inquiry and to encourage students to consider ways they can be active, participatory and engaged citizens who contribute to their community.

It is available from LawNow, March/ April 2009. In this particular activity, there are five charity/non-profit websites to investigate and specific questions to answer before sharing your findings and deciding whether or not to take action.
