Canadian Courts vs. U.S. Courts: What’s the Difference?

This lesson has been designed to help dispel some of the myths and misconceptions Grade 6 students may have about the Canadian judicial process and Canadian courtrooms. The lesson should take about 1 hour and will help students acknowledge their pre-existing notions, the exploration of a virtual courtroom, and comparing reality with their initial ideas.

This lesson was designed to accompany the Grade 6 Social Studies curriculum. The resource includes a handout to guide students through the virtual courtroom, an extension activity, answer keys and additional information for teachers, and links to several online resources for further instructional support.
