Alberta Municipal Affairs Teacher FAQs

Created to reflect outcomes of grade six social studies, this 228 page resource enhances the study of local government. The resource includes activities based on inquiry, critical thinking, and citizenship. Available in PDF format.

The Building Communities Through Local Government resources provide opportunities for students to explore local government in the context of their own and other communities. The resource supports General Outcome 6.1 of the Alberta Social Studies program of studies and reflects citizenship, democracy and decision making. Based on a fundamental assumption that students should be involved in decision-making, the resource enables teachers to facilitate inquiry and to encourage students to consider ways that they can be active, participatory and engaged citizens.

Easy to use background, handouts, and inquiry activities are included. The entire Teacher’s Resource is available from the Teacher’s FAQs webpage (see the link in the box on the right-hand side of the page).
